How to Recover a lost Refund

Every year I get several questions about recovering a lost refund. The IRS recently reported that they have about $175 million in undelivered tax refunds. These are for more than 100,000 taxpayers. You may be one of them. The failure in delivery was usually due to faulty addresses. One good way to avoid this in the future is to have your refund check direct deposited into your bank account. The best way to try to recover your refund now is to visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov and look for the “Where’s My Refund” tool on the front page. If you do not have access to the internet, you may call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and a representative will help you.
