Unfortunately the IRS is not lenient when you try to deduct expenses for which there is no valid reason. Here are a few examples of deductions that have been tried and “shot down” by the IRS. (1) A real estate agent tried to deduct the cost of a riding lawnmower that he used to trim the grass around his For Sale signs. (2) Many have tried to deduct the cost of and expenses for a family pet as “security protection”. (3) Another popular one is deducting the cost of a graduation or birthday party because you invite business associates. (4) One grandfather tried to deduct the tuition he paid for his grandchild as a charitable donation. (5) Each year many people try to deduct the cost of cosmetic surgery as a medical expense. The IRS has said NO to all of these, so please do not try to use these as deductions.
