Will IRS taxes follow you if you move to another state?

I have been asked this question before. First there is no question that your federal tax liability will follow you when you move to another state. The IRS can easily find you by several means, such as your W-2, so it is just a matter of time before those nasty letters will be arriving. If your state has a state income tax, it generally will not follow you here since every state’s authority extends only to its borders. However, that state can file a suit here to collect the tax but that is unlikely. I can and will be very happy to help anyone with a federal tax problem, no matter where it arose. I can get the case transferred to the local division and deal through local revenue officers in Greenville.
