You must use Form 1040 if (a) your income is over $100,000, (b) you claim itemized deductions, (c) have self employment income or (d) have income from the sale of property.
Generally, you may use Form 1040EZ if (a) you claim no dependents, (b) your taxable income is under $100,000, (c) your filing status is single or married filing jointly and (d) your interest income is $1,500 or less.
Form 1040A is for those (a) whose taxable income is under $100,000 and (b) who have capital gain distributions, claim certain tax credits or claim adjustments due to IRAs or student loans.
