Is there anything wrong with buying a fill-in-the-blank will or trust from the office supply store?

I highly discourage buying and using these kinds of packages. Why? First, they may or may not contain all of the language and signing requirements necessary in South Carolina. Second, they do not give you the latitude in making your wishes known that a properly drafted will or trust will provide, This is especially true of trusts, which allow one very wide latitude in passing assets over more than one generation. Third, many times the pre-packaged will or trust is not signed, witnessed and notarized correctly, especially when one witnesses who is not authorized to witness. Sometimes an intended heir is left with nothing due to incorrect signing. As the old saying goes: “You get what you pay for.” If you want a properly prepared will or trust, I urge you to use the services of a professional.
