I highly discourage buying and using pre-packaged or “cookie cutter” wills and trusts. Why? First, they may or may not contain all of the language and signing requirements necessary in South Carolina. Second, they do not give you the latitude in making your wishes known that a properly drafted will or trust will provide, This is especially true of trusts, which allow one very wide latitude in passing assets over more than one generation. Third, many times the pre-packaged will or trust is not signed, witnessed and notarized correctly, especially when one witnesses who is not authorized to witness. Sometimes an intended heir is left with nothing due to incorrect signing. I am giving a free seminar on estate planning on SATURDAY FEBRUARY 22 at the TRAVELERS REST LIBRARY. It begins at 10 am. I encourage everyone to come and learn more about wills, trusts, Powers of Attorney and Health Care Powers of Attorney. You will also learn why almost everyone will benefit by having a family trust. Then you can decide for yourself the best action for you. Call us at 864-271-7940 for more information.
